FISH-GILL INSPIRED SPILL OIL CLEANING
Tiger Pharm is involved in research into new membranes that are less susceptible to oil contamination, have a long service life, high throughput and high separation efficiency. This research, has extremely important research applications in oilfield recovery fluids and oilfield wastewater treatment applications.
Conventional Technical Vulnerabilities
Conventional membrane separation technologies used in industrial applications still suffer from the major problem of membranes being easily contaminated, resulting in lower membrane fluxes. In contrast to conventional membrane separation methods, • Can separate particles smaller than pore size.
-
Cannot separate particles smaller than pore size
-
Suspension particles accumulate on the membrane
-
Easy fouling and clogging – short lifetime
-
Rapid decline of water flux with the
accumulation of particles
-
Discontinuity of separation
-
Low efficiency and high cost
New Technology Advantages
Bioinspired crossflow spilled oil collection. When the ship travels at a certain speed, oil/water flows parallel to the gradient membrane surface with water gradually passing through the pores, while oil transported and finally collected by a temporary storage (note the membrane with large pores at the bottom and small pores at the top). During crossflow spilled oil collection, a repelling water layer forms and covers on membrane surface, endowing the membrane with excellent anti-fouling property.
• Can separate particles smaller than pore size
• Suspension particles don’t touch the membrane
• avoid fouling and clogging – long lifetime
• Rapid filtration of water
• Continuity of separation
• High efficiency and low cost
